How to Upload and Edit a File using the File Manager

You can upload your files directly through cPanel using the File Manager.
File Manager is a web interface that allows you to manage all files associated with your account.

How to Upload  and Edit a File Using File Manager

To upload a file through cPanel's File Manager, please do the following:

  1. Login to cPanel (Control Panel URL: https://www.gridhoster.com/cpanel (The username and password can be found in your welcome email)
  2. Under Files, click File Manager.
  3. Select Web Root and Show Hidden Files, then click Go.
  4. Click to open the folder to which you'd like to upload files.
  5. Click Upload from the top toolbar.
  6. Click Browse (some web browsers will have Choose File instead).
  7. Select the file on your computer that you wish to upload.
  8. Once the file has been selected, it will automatically upload. You may select additional files while uploads are in progress.
To edit a file through cPanel's File Manager, please do the following:
  1. Login to cPanel (Control Panel URL: https://www.gridhoster.com/cpanel (The username and password can be found in your welcome email)
  2. Under Files, click File Manager.
  3. Select Web Root and Show Hidden Files, then click Go.
  4. Click and highlight the file you want to edit in the file listing.
  5. Choose one of the three following editors from the top toolbar:
    • Edit allows the user to edit a document as plain text
    • Code Edit allows the user to edit a document as code and will give line numbers down the side of the editor. You can also color code your code by using the syntax drop-down menu and selecting the code you are working with.
    • HTML Editor allows the user to edit a document as an HTML document. In this editor, you can also switch between a Design View (as a text document), a Source View (through the html code itself) or a Preview Mode (view the page through the web) by selecting the appropriate tab in the bottom left of the editor.
  6. Once you have selected the editor you would like to use, click Edit from the pop-up window to open the editor in a new window.
  7. Click Save Changes once you are done editing your document.

After uploading files to your account, you may wish to share them over the internet.
